Program Director - Literacy and Education

Supervisors: Executive Director

 

Purpose: Ensure the Literacy and Education Program helps Fonkoze reach its guiding philosophy, mission and procedures.  Principal responsibilities include:

    1. All clients are satisfied with the program’s services and the program meets their literacy and education needs.
    2. The program continuously provides good quality service to help clients improve their lives.
    3. Program employees are competent, productive and motivated.

Daily Tasks:

Program Management

  • Collaborate with all Fonkoze departments to help define the vision, strategic plan and effective procedures for the institution.
  • Develop educational programs based on the goals clients set for themselves.
  • Review the program regularly to ensure clients are able to successfully complete the program.  Follow-up and verify the program meets Fonkoze’s philosophy, mission and objectives. Visit trainings and meet with participants before a training session ends.
  • Evaluate the results of the program: 
    • Evaluate the number of clients that participate and complete the training
    • Measure what clients learn
  • Work with the Social Impact Department to assess how each training impacts clients and their livelihoods and trainers have the tools to carry out the trainings and evaluate results.
  • Plan and execute trainings for team trainers.
  • Complete annual reports and reports to donors on the management and results of the program.
  • Participate in fundraising and write project proposals.  Accompany visitors in the field.
  • Ensure there are adequate tools to produce reliable statistical results and analyze data regularly to improve the program.

 

Financial Management

  • Prepare the department’s annual budget and mid-year budget reporting as needed.
  • Manage program expenses in accordance with projected costs.  Ensure all budgetary procedures are followed, proper documentation is kept. Prepare all related expense reports for the accounting department.

 

Materials Management

  • Manage program materials and equipment.  Ensure all participants have the materials they need.  Complete an annual inventory of program materials and equipment.  Ensure materials are in good condition, and request replacement materials as needed.
  • Control participants’ contribution to the program corresponding to the amount of resources and materials given.

 

Human Resource Management

  • Plan the amount and quality of staff needed to meet program targets.
  • Participate in recruiting and evaluating candidates.
  • Ensure that all new employees are well trained and understand the program’s mission.
  • Make sure all employees are given an annual evaluation and ongoing performance feedback.  Ensure staff is content in executing their daily tasks.
  • Carry out procedures for promotions, wage adjustments, disciplinary action and termination.

Profile and Selection Criteria:

Education: Minimum 4-year university degree in the area of education or social studies.

Experience: 5 years experience in development program management, the ideal candidate will have experience training adults

  • Relationship building skills and able to communicate mission of the program and Fonkoze.
  • Strong computer skills: Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Fluent Language Skills in English and Haitian Creole. Must be able to write in Creole well.

  • Ability to work in teams
