The Haitian Diaspora is often known as the ‘tenth’ department of Haiti. Many are actively involved in the development of their country. Louis Prezeau is an excellent example of a member of the Diaspora who is making a difference in the lives of Haitians and Haitian Americans by helping to facilitate the flow of remittances from the Diaspora into Haiti.

Charlie Horwitz, Fonkoze USA Board Director, traveled to New Orleans to learn more about how two priests were helping the poor to gain access to financial services in Fòlibète, a remote town located in northeastern Haiti.

When Don McKnight agreed to accompany his uncle, Fr. Albert McKnight, to Haiti in 1997 to help at an orphanage, he had no idea that the impact of that trip would last for many years to come.

In April 2004, Ray Escoffier left the quiet town of Charlottesville, Virginia to accompany Anne Hastings, the Director of Fonkoze, and Jean Edner (Johnny) Nelson, the Director of Fonkoze Financial Services, on a trip to the Philippines that would change how he viewed microfinance and Fonkoze forever.
