Fonkoze is a Haitian foundation that supports the organized poor, providing them with essential banking services through-out the country and assisting borrowers with literacy, business training and health education.

Fonkoze USA is the American arm that assists Fonkoze in its critical work. Both Fonkoze and Fonkoze USA are committed to the economic and social improvement of the people and communities of Haiti and to the reduction of poverty in the country.

Both organizations are non-political and take no official positions on any aspect of the Haitian political situation.

Although Board directors, staff and clients may express such opinions, they do not ever express these on behalf of Fonkoze or Fonkoze USA.

Recently Anne Hastings delivered a talk at the Capps Center in Santa Barbara, California that was extremely well received. In fact, one of the University officials stated that it was the “best lecture” that they had sponsored.

  “Anne Hastings, Executive Director of Fonkoze, Haiti’s largest microfinance institution, has searched the globe for a solution to the problem of extreme poverty. In countries as far apart as Bangladesh and Haiti efforts to combat even the most extreme types of poverty are now proving effective at relatively little cost per family. Based on her review of experimental and innovative approaches worldwide, Hastings describes the role that microfinance, education, health care, and case management play in eradicating poverty.
